"Our History"
Thank you for visiting the Stayner Granite Club website. The Georgian Bay area curling
club originated almost 50 years ago (in 1963) and continues to provide excellent curling for
all who use this facility. The club was built by its members and includes 4 sheets of ice
along with an active volunteer membership of 200 (+) living in the immediate areas of the
Clearview Township (Stayner) and nearby Wasaga Beach.
The Board of Directors would like to welcome back all returning members as well as
our new members. The club still depends entirely on volunteers willing to assist
throughout the curling season. To this end, the club offers a variety of leagues
and fun bonspiels throughout the 5 month curling season that are both inexpensive
and enjoyable. This four-season resort area of the Georgian Triangle located on the
southern shores of Georgian Bay and including the towns of Collingwood and Blue Mountains,
brings together sports-minded people from the large cities to the south including Toronto
plus a number of border cities in the USA. The two main attractions include the 3rd largest
ski resort in Canada at Blue Mountains and in the summer, the longest fresh water beach in
the world located in Wasaga Beach.
During recent years, a large number of building improvements have been completed including
insulating the sand base ice surface, ice surface lighting, new electrical entrance, new
lockers, curling stones reconditioned, new lounge walls and chairs.
Our website www.staynercurling.com is designed to be informative and user friendly.
To promote our area, we are including seasonal type photos of the region along with links
to the local weather and road conditions, sponsor's websites as well as links to the two
local municipal offices. During the season, members are able to keep checking their up-coming
curling schedules plus past weekly results found on the HOME Webpage under 'Weekly Results'.
