President's 2007-08 Message

On behalf of the 2007 – 2008 Board of Directors, Stayner Granite Curling Club  I am proud to welcome back all our returning members as well as the new members who will be joining our club over the next few weeks and months. I’m also pleased to indicate our club depends upon volunteer help to make things happen and thankfully we do have a very active volunteer membership. The club offers a variety of leagues and fun bonspiels throughout the curling season which are both inexpensive and enjoyable.

As the curling season is about to get underway, a number of major improvements are in progress at the Granite Curling Club, including a new sand base floor under the ice surface with new refrigeration piping. New lighting fixtures (installed over the ice surface - no more excuse for not hitting the broom), replacement carpeting (in the front entrance) and a ‘nipper’ (ice scraper to assist in the maintenance of the ice surface) all have been newly purchased.

The above improvements to our building were made possible through funding grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation ($65,000) and the Town of Wasaga Beach ($5,000), plus the material and labour support from the Clearview Township, as well as the many volunteer hours provided by our members. On behalf of our club and it’s members, thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project.

Keeping our members informed is very important. It appears 2/3 of our club members have an e-mail address, so we have decided to follow the route of a number of organizations who now use the internet to pass on information to their members.  Your e-mail address will be protected at all times and can be cancelled at any time at your request.

Finally, we need your assistance. The main revenue stream for our club comes through memberships. We are asking members attending either of the two registration dates or the Open House, to bring along a guest….. a friend or neighbour. Introduce your guests around and to other members and at the same time enjoy the wine and cheese during OPEN HOUSE on Sunday Oct 21st/07.

GOOD CURLING!

Doug Robinson – President

Stayner Granite Curling Club

P.S.  The curling season will start with league play on Monday October 29th, 2007
